When the Rooster Crowed can have been a time of reminder of failure or a time of life transformation…
Luke 22:54-62… Then seizing him, they led him away and took him into the house of the high priest. Peter followed at a distance. 55And when some there had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and had sat down together, Peter sat down with them. 56A servant girl saw him seated there in the firelight. She looked closely at him and said, “This man was with him.”
57But he denied it. “Woman, I don’t know him,” he said. 58A little later someone else saw him and said, “You also are one of them.” “Man, I am not!” Peter replied. 59About an hour later another asserted, “Certainly this fellow was with him, for he is a Galilean.”
60Peter replied, “Man, I don’t know what you’re talking about!” Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed. 61The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times.” 62And he went outside and wept bitterly.
When the rooster crowed can have been that time when you may have felt when things around you were spinning out of control. This, however, is the time to know that God is with you.
Few of us have our sins or failures marked out like Peter did when the rooster crowed and he had denied Jesus. That must have haunted him when he heard roosters crow anywhere that he went.
There are those things in our lives that can serve as constant reminders as well. God can change those reminders of failures into reminders to praise God.
Peter, and we, can do things to prevent some downward spirals in life…
- We need to be aware of pride
- We need to listen more and defend ourselves less
- We do not want to place ourselves in a place of temptation
- Know to whom you can go
We cannot follow Jesus at a distance. He needs to be prominent in our life.
There are times in our life where God will stop the downward spiraling . He reaches down to stop it and tell us to just turn towards Him.
We need to be mindful of those alarms within us to pay attention to what is going on in our lives.
Jesus took a situation that could have haunted Peter for the rest of his life, but he reaches out to Peter and restores him. After the resurrection, when the rooster crowed was a reminder of how good God is.
Wherever you are God is saying to you that He is here to remove your past mistakes. He wants to turn your life around. God will take your sin away and give you a new life.
