To Honor To Respect

We please God when we aim To Honor and To Respect our father and our mother…

Ephesians 6:1-3…
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2“Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— 3“so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”

For some more than others it can be complicated to honor our father and our mother. God is very clear in His commandments that this is what we are called to do. He talks first over our earthly relationship with our parents before many other commandments.

If we do not honor our parents it has a tendency to have a profound affect on our relationship with God. How we honor our parents has a direct affect on how we honor God.

The Word actually says that we should actually be thankful for those that have disciplined us. Discipline helps us to learn by correction. Just as God disciplines us because He loves us, so should we accept the same from our earthly parents. Often we do not appreciate it in the moment, but we do recognize and are grateful eventually as we grow. Particularly when we ourselves become parents do we recognize the wisdom in God’s command.

We obey our parents because we love them and we believe that they have their best interests for us.

If we hold to the teachings of God life will be good. So honor your fathers and mothers on all days, and remember to pass on the good.
