Jesus calls us to make a choice for Him and His eternal rest…
Now it was the governor’s custom at the festival to release a prisoner chosen by the crowd. 16At that time they had a well-known prisoner whose name was Jesus Barabbas. 17So when the crowd had gathered, Pilate asked them, “Which one do you want me to release to you: Jesus Barabbas, or Jesus who is called the Messiah?” 18For he knew it was out of self-interest that they had handed Jesus over to him.
It was during Passover when Jesus was to be crucified. Pilate, having already tried to reason with the crowd, offered to them a choice of whom to release. One was a hardened criminal, and the other was Jesus. Pilate was taking advantage of this custom of releasing a prisoner, trying to distance himself from what the people were seeking to have done to Jesus.
We have the same choice daily, to follow Christ or the things of this earth. Every time we say yes to this world and it’s ways, we say no to Jesus.
