Standing in the Gap

God calls us to be standing in the gap for each other…

Ezekiel 22:30-31
“I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one. 31So I will pour out my wrath on them and consume them with my fiery anger, bringing down on their own heads all they have done, declares the Sovereign Lord.”

Standing in the gap is part of God’s purpose for us. We see this time and time again in Jesus’ examples throughout the bible. It is not His desire for anyone to be lost, or for us to experience His wrath. God offers the Good News so that everyone can be saved. We are called to be standing in the gap so that everyone can know the Lord.

The picture is bleak for our neighbors who do not know the Lord. These lost souls are breaches or gaps that need to be filled in by us. In so doing, we fulfill God’s plan in our reaching out to others so that they, too, can be saved. Doing our part in bringing the Good news helps others decide on Him, so that everyone can experience joy on this earth and live eternally with God.

The Word is very clear in that there is joy everlasting when we accept and receive God. It is also quite clear that there is eternal wrath for those that do not accept God. He does not want this for us or anyone. He, therefore, calls on us to be standing in the gap for our brothers and sisters, our neighbors. This involves praying for them, praying with them, and bringing the gospel to them. In so doing, we bring them the message of hope. The hope that allows them to partake in this great joy.
