Sound Advice on Father’s Day- Be strong and courageous…
When the time drew near for David to die, he gave a charge to Solomon his son. 2“I am about to go the way of all the earth,” he said. “So be strong, act like a man, 3and observe what the Lord your God requires: Walk in obedience to him, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and regulations, as written in the Law of Moses. Do this so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go 4and that the Lord may keep his promise to me: ‘If your descendants watch how they live, and if they walk faithfully before me with all their heart and soul, you will never fail to have a successor on the throne of Israel.’
We are given sound advice throughout the Word in being called by God to be strong and courageous. It is wise to remind our children, not in a morbid way, of our mortality. We are given but a certain amount of time to live. There is going to be an accountability some day that goes beyond that with us as parents. That responsibility is for each and every one of us.
We see many examples in the Bible of great men of God speaking words of encouragement. Sound advice is passed on from generation to generation. Moses and Joshua, as well as David and Solomon are examples of this.
As King David tells as he nears his death, we are to be strong. One thing that we can instill and one thing we need to be as fathers is strength and strong in the home. Our children will pick it up.
Men are to be strong and courageous. If we are to take a stand for God, you need to be strong and courageous in the things of God.
It is necessary to take on the actual roll of mother and father, and be more than a biological parent. Be present in every aspect. We need to be an example of Christ for them. It is never too late. He has equipped us with the Holy Spirit to do this.
