Rejection / Israel's First King- Sun peeking through rocks a darkened sky behind river.

Our Rejection of God is evident when we look to conform to this world only…

1 Samuel 8:1-6…
When Samuel grew old, he appointed his sons as Israel’s leaders. 2The name of his firstborn was Joel and the name of his second was Abijah, and they served at Beersheba. 3But his sons did not follow his ways. They turned aside after dishonest gain and accepted bribes and perverted justice.
4So all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah.5 hey said to him, “You are old, and your sons do not follow your ways; now appoint a king to lead[b] us, such as all the other nations have.” 6But when they said, “Give us a king to lead us,” this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the Lord.

Care needs to be taken so that we not reject God, and instead elect to follow the world. It is important that we look up to God for His guidance.

We need to be careful when we are looking for something different. What we can best hope for is not to just have something that is different, but what God wants for our lives.

Be careful of what we wish for, things that we hope for- when they are not lined up with God.

Being like others is exactly what we are not called to be. We are not to conform to this world by rejecting God and His purpose for our lives.

To allow ourselves to conform to this world is not only a rejection of God. It is a loss of mission in our identity. We are made distinct. Don’t be like everyone else; be what God has created you to be.

We are not called to be common. We are called to be set apart.
